Well, today I was thinking back to the very first time I stepped foot into the Bikram Hot Yoga Huntsville business on July 7, 2014. Wow! So much has happened since then!

Well, let me start with last night. I’m so very very proud of my accomplishment! Last night, 7 January, 2016, I completed my TWO HUNDRETH hot yoga class! YAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS!!!! YOU GO GIRL!

Isn’t that just incredible? 200 times in 100+ degree temperature, sweating, concentrating, growing, changing, believing and just improving my overall health. Words cannot explain this feeling. I’ve been transformed. PERIOD. The funny thing is that for a few months, I’ve been wondering if I’d ever be able to do tree pose without holding my foot. Well, miraculously enough, last night, I could feel more flexibility in my left hip! Now, I can feel that I’m closer than ever! It’s just amazing to me how that could take so many months to happen! I’ll tell ya, the body is an incredible thing. I mean, I remember the smaller accomplishments like straightening my standing leg in standing head to knee pose for the first time. I remember when I did my first toe stand and that was exciting! And standing bow pulling pose… OH MY GOSH! I progressed, regressed, progressed again and then finally have gotten to where I can consistently do the posture. But guess what? I’m not always together on it. There are days where I just cannot balance. But you know what? That’s what keeps the practice so fresh, new and exciting. My practice goes well (or not) based on my day. So, for that reason, the same postures in that same order, on those same days, still have value to me. How amazing is that? Man. It’s a love that never dies. It’s just like my love for Christ, my husband and my children. Blows my mind! I never tire of any of them.  CHRIST|HUSBAND|KIDS|MOM|YOGA|PILATES|VMP — – Carla

My first experience in the hot room was in November of 2013, and here we are in 2016 and Bikram Hot Yoga has become a constant in my life. Whatever is going on in my personal life, this practice consistently leads me back to a quiet and peaceful state. Here are some reasons why this practice has me returning to the studio more times than not during a week:

I ALWAYS leave feeling better than when I arrived after practicing Bikram.
It offers me the potential to be the best possible me, every time I show up.
In a busy and ever changing world, this practice calms the mind and anxieties of the world.
Focus, is attained within the hot room, which carries over into my daily life.
Hydration and healthy eating. The practice brings about an awareness of what your body needs and what it won’t tolerate.
Lastly, it offers the attributes of having a best friend for life…always available for you, brings out the best in you, grants you solace and is a safe haven for whatever life brings you.
This one is for you Dell….IT ALWAYS HAS YOUR BACK  – Carol Ann

Two years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  When I had finished going through chemo therapy and radiation, I had a lot of muscle stiffness and aching in my upper arms, neck and shoulders.  I decided to try yoga to see if it would help to restore my flexibility and ease the discomfort.  I have been practicing Bikram Yoga for four months and find that it has really helped to limber up my muscles and relieve my former aches and stiffness.  Also, I feel a lot healthier generally.   My most significant breakthrough is being able to go about my daily activities normally again.  I would advise any new students to not become discouraged when beginning this program.  Even though some of the poses are difficult at first and it can be very tiring, the advantages if you stick with it are worth any initial discomfort you may experience.  –Tina

Before starting BHY six months ago, my lifestyle had been mostly sedentary for the past 6-7 years. At 49, with a very stressful job teaching teenagers, I had given up the idea of ever being fit or leading a healthy lifestyle again. I was tired all the time, and I craved sugar like crack. My medical concerns included rheumatoid arthritis, asthma/allergies, migraines, chronic depression/anxiety, peri-menopause, borderline hypertension, high blood pressure, and obesity. I was also bored with all my previous forms of exercise (walking/hiking, dancing, working out at the gym). When I saw the ad for BHY Huntsville in one of the Madison newspapers, I just knew I had to try it.

That first class was the hardest thing I’ve ever attempted to do. I had no Idea I could sweat so much, and in my physical condition, I was sure I was going to have a heart attack! But even as I struggled just to stay in the room and finish the class, I knew I would be back. I knew this was what I had been looking for. After that class, I made a commitment to myself to do it for a month, and I haven’t regretted it.

Since starting my practice, I have lost 24 pounds, my blood pressure has gone down to 110/60, I have only had ONE migraine (five months ago!), I no longer experience chronic lower back pain, my RA is in remission, my mental focus is better, I sleep more soundly, my energy is up, I am better able to handle the stress in my life, I feel happier, and have more to offer others. I am actually looking forward to turning 50 in September, and in many ways, it feels like my life has just begun.

I owe my success to the excellent instruction at BHY Huntsville as well as my own determination to COMMIT to the practice. I go into that room each time determined to do the best I can and get the most benefit from each class. Sometimes, the best I can do is just get through it without running out of the room! But more often than not, I work it like it’s my job. Like everything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. – Mary Beth
